Article 19 (1) (a) Guarantees to every Indian citizen the right to freedom of speech and expression. Though it does not specifically refer to the freedom of the press, but right to freedom of speech and expression. “Freedom of the Press is the heart of social and political intercourse. It is the primary duty of the courts to uphold the freedom of the press and invalidate till all laws or administrative actions which interface with it contrary to the constitutional mandate.” This means that every citizen is free to express his views, beliefs and convictions freely and without inhibitions by word of mouth, through writing, printing, picturising or in any other manner.
