Satyagraha against the proposed Rowlatt Act, 1919 :
The Rowlatt Act was hurriedly passed through the Imperial Legislative Council. Indian members unitedly opposed it. it gave government enormous powers to repress political activities. It allowed detention of political prisoners without trials for two years.
Organization of Satyagraha :
(i) Mahatrna Gandhi wanted non-violent civil disobedience against such unjust laws.
(ii) It was started with a 'Hartal' on 6th April.
(iii) Rallies were organized in various cities. Workers went on strike in railway workshops. Shops were closed down.
