In recent days, the air quality indexes (AQI) has dropped in various cities across the country. Sudha was studying the news report regarding the problems faced by people due to increasing air pollutants and global warming. Also, the situation of smog is alarming in the recent years. She discussed the issue with her classmates. 

After reading the passage answer the following questions: 

(a) Name the gaseous air pollutant which causes eye irritation. 

(b) How classical smog is different from photochemical smog? Write three secondary constituents of photochemical smog with their formula. 

(c) What are the different values associated with above passage?

(a) Sulphur dioxide (SO2) causes eye irritation. 

(b) Classical smog occurs in cool humid climate. It is a mixture of smoke, fog and sulphur dioxide. It is a reducing smog. While photochemical smog occurs in warm, dry and sunny climate. It results from the action of sunlight on unsaturated hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides produced by automobiles and factories. It is an oxidising smog.

The three secondary constituents of photochemical smog are –

Formaldehyde (HCHO)

(c) The values associated with Sudha are curious for environment, knowledgeable and seek to solve the environmental problem regarding air pollution.
