Semaphore. Semaphore is a method of communication when within visual range and where radio or vocal communication is inappropriate. It is carried out with the help of two flags and arms outstretched. Semaphore symbols are as given below.

Phonetic Alphabets. When the letters of the alphabet are read out it will be observed that some of them sound very similar especially on radio telephone. This can cause confusion when important messages are being passed. In order to eliminate the ambiguity phonetic alphabets are used so as to ensure clarity and exactness of messages.
