The molar specific heats of an ideal gas at constant pressure and volume are denoted by Cp and Cv, respectively. If γ = Cp/CV and R is the universal gas constant, then Cv is equal to

(a) (γ - 1)/R

(b) γR

(c) 1+γ/1-γ

(d) R/(γ-1)

Explanation:

 For an ideal gas

Cp - Cv = R  ...(i)

Divide Cv on both sides, we get

Option (d) is correct

¥=Cp/Cv

Again

Cp-Cv=R

¥-1=(Cp-Cv)/CV=R/CV

Hence Cv=R/(¥-1)
