Explanation :

To measure water pollution, Biological Oxygen Demand or BOD test is made. In this test, amount of oxygen sufficient to degrade waste organic matter by micro-organism in a sample is measured. The more oxygen used up by the micro-organism to degrade the organic matter in the sample, the greater the BOD would be.
