Absorption transitions of Balmer series will be those which start from second energy-level(n=2). But because at ordinary temperatures almost all the atoms remain in their lowest energy level (n=1), hence absorption transitions can start only from n=1 (not from n=2,3,4....levels). Thus, only Lyman series is found in the absorption spectrum of Hydrogen atom whereas in the emission spectrum, all the series are found.
