Assertion : In an elastic collision of two billiard balls, the total kinetic energy is conserved during the short time of oscillation of the balls (i.e., when they are in contact).

Reason : Energy spent against friction does not follow the law of conservation of energy.

Best answer

Correct option (d) A and R are false

Explanation :

Assertion is not true. It is false. Reason is also false. In an elastic collision, linear momentum and kinetic energy, both, are always conserved. Energy transformation occurs. Due to friction, mechanical energy may be converted into heat energy.
