Correct Answer - Option 1 : Babinski reflex

Concept:-

  • The reflex action of the toes is indicative of abnormalities in the motor control pathways leading from the cerebral cortex is babinski reflex.
  • Babinski reflex occurs when the sole of the foot is stroked forcefully. The big toe moves upward or toward the top surface of the foot. The other toes stick out.
  • When the Babinski reflex is present in a child or adult over the age of 2 years, it is often a sign of a central nervous system disorder. The central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord.
  • Following damage to the descending corticospinal pathways, there is abnormal fanning of the toes and extension of the big toe by stroking the sole of the foot.

  • The patellar reflex, also called the knee reflex or knee-jerk, is a stretch reflex that tests the L2, L3, and L4 segments of the spinal cord.
  • The Achilles reflex, also known as the ankle jerk reflex, occurs when the Achilles tendon is tapped while the foot is dorsiflexed. This is a type of stretch reflex that tests the function of the gastrocnemius muscle and the nerve that supplies it.
  • Romberg test- It is commonly used to diagnose problems with balance, which are made up of the visual, vestibular (inner ear), and proprioceptive (positional sense) systems, during a neurological exam.
