Two different sets of forcing systems are said to statically equivalent if,

(i) They produce same shear force and bending moment in a particular section.

(ii) They require same set of external forces to reduce each system to equilibrium.

(iii) They generate identical reactions with respect to direction and magnitude.

(iv) They produce same deflection in any given section of the beam.

Which of the above are true ?

1. (i) and (ii)
2. (ii) and (iii)
3. (i) and (iv)
4. (iii) and (iv)

Correct Answer - Option 1 : (i) and (ii)

Explanation:

(i) Two forces are said to be equivalent if they have the same magnitude and direction (i.e. they are equal) and produce the same moment about any point (i.e. same line of action).

(ii) Principle of transmissibility follows from this. Two forces that have the same line of action produce the same external effect (i.e.translation or rotation) on the body because they have the same net force and moment about any point.
