Consider the following statements regarding memory:

1. Integrated circuit RAM chips are available in both static and dynamic modes.

2. The dynamic RAM stores the binary information in the form of electric charges that are applied to capacitors.

3. The static RAM is easier to use and has shorter read and write cycles.

4. RAM and ROM chips are not available in a variety of physical sizes.

Which of the above statements are correct ?

1. 1 and 2 only
2. 1, 3 and 4 only
3. 2, 3 and 4 only
4. 1, 2, 3 and 4

Correct Answer - Option 1 : 1 and 2 only

Option 1) & 2) is correct.

Explanation:-

  • Integrated circuit RAM chips are available in two possible operating modes, static and dynamic. The static RAM consists essentially of internal flip-flops that store binary information.
  • The stored information remains valid as long as power is applied to the unit. The dynamic RAM stores the binary information in the form of electric charges that are applied to capacitors.
  • The capacitors are provided inside the chip by MOS transistors.
  • The stored charge on the capacitors tends to discharge with time and the capacitors must be periodically recharged by refreshing the dynamic memory.

  • ROM can vary in size from less than an inch in length to multiple inches in length and width, depending on their use.
  • RAM is available in two primary sizes, whether used in a desktop computer or a laptop. Desktop RAM is about 5 ½ inches in length and 1 inch in width. Laptop RAM is about half the length of desktop RAM.
