Correct Answer - Option 1 : 1 and 2

Explanation:

  • Power transmitting shafts are subjected to axial tensile stress, bending moment, or torsional moments or combined loading so statement 3 is incorrect.
  • The shafts are alternatively subjected to tensile and compressive as the shafts transmit power under rotation and the rotating shafts under bending stress are alternatively subjected to tensile and compressive stress. So, the statement 1 and 2 are correct and statement 4 is incorrect.
