The question consists of two statements; one labeled as ‘Assertion (A)’ and the other as ‘Reason (R)’:

Assertion (A): While laying a sewer line the socket end of a sewer is kept facing the downward slope in the trench.

Reason (R): The socket end being heavy will slide down the slope if it faces the downward slope.

Examine the above two statements carefully and select the correct answer from the options given below:
1. Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is correct explanation of (A)
2. Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is not correct explanation of (A)
3. (A) is true but (R) is false
4. (A) is false but (R) is true

Correct Answer - Option 4 : (A) is false but (R) is true

Concept:

Laying sewer pipes:

The laying of the sewer started from the outfall end and proceeded upward.

The sewer pipes are usually laid from the lowest point with their socket ends facing upstream so that the spigot each pipe can be easily inserted in socket of the already laid pipe.

Assertion (A) is wrong.

The socket ends faced upstream because there are high chances of sliding of them if faced downstream due to improper connection with spigot and heavyweight.

Reason (R) is correct.
