Correct Answer - Option 1 : 27 ∶ 53

Given:

The total quantity of mixture = 80 liters

The ratio of alcohol and water = 3 ∶ 5

Calculation:

Let the quantity of alcohol and water be 3x and 5x respectively

According to the question,

If 8 liters of mixture is replaced by 8 liters of water, then

Quantity of water = 5x + 8

Quantity of alcohol = 3x

5x + 8 + 3x = 80

⇒ 8x + 8 = 80

⇒ 8x = 80 - 8

⇒ 8x = 72

⇒ x = 9

Now, the new ratio of alcohol and water = (3x) ∶ (5x + 8)

⇒ (3 × 9) ∶ (5 × 9 + 8)

⇒ 27 ∶ 53

∴ The new ratio of alcohol and water is 27 ∶ 53.
