Correct Answer - Option 2 : OCR

The correct answer is OCR.

  • OCR is used to read a printed test.

  • OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition.
    • OCR is the electronic or mechanical conversion of images of typed, handwritten, or printed text into machine-encoded text, whether from a scanned document, a photo of a document, a scene-photo (for example the text on signs and billboards in a landscape photo), or from subtitle text superimposed on an image (for example: from a television broadcast)
    • Widely used as a form of data entry from printed paper data records – whether passport documents, invoices, bank statements, computerized receipts, business cards, mail, printouts of static-data
      • It is a common method of digitizing printed texts so that they can be electronically edited, searched, stored more compactly, displayed on-line
      • OCR is a field of research in pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, and computer vision.

  • Optical Mark Reading (OMR) is a method of entering data into a computer system.
    • Optical Mark Readers reads pencil or pen marks made in pre-defined positions on paper forms as responses to questions or tick list prompts.
  • MICR (magnetic ink character recognition) is a technology used to verify the legitimacy or originality of paper documents, especially cheques.
    • Special ink, which is sensitive to magnetic fields, is used in the printing of certain characters on the original documents.
  • A cathode ray tube (CRT) is a specialized vacuum tube in which images are produced when an electron beam strikes a phosphorescent surface. Most desktop computer displays make use of CRTs.
    • The CRT in a computer display is similar to the"picture tube" in a television receiver.
