Given:

Sum donated to orphanage = 18% of monthly salary of the man

Sum shared with his son = 16% of (total monthly salary - 18% of monthly salary of the man)

Sum donated to orphanage + Sum shared with his son = Rs. 7780

Formula used:

X% of Y = XY/100

Calculation:

Let monthly salary be Rs,. x

Sum donated to orphanage = 18x/100

Remaining salary = x - (18x/100)

⇒ 82x/100

Sum shared with his son = (16/100) × (82x/100)

⇒ 1312x/10000

So,

(18x/100) + (1312x/10000) = 7780

⇒ (3112x/10000) = 7780

⇒ x = 25000

∴ The monthly salary is Rs. 25000.
