Correct Answer - Option 2 : PROM

The correct answer is PROM.

  • ROM is a non-volatile memory where the memory content could be read multiple times but could not be written.
  • There are 4 types of ROM:
    •  MROM, PROM, EPROM, and EEPROM.
  • Masked read-only memory (MROM):
    • It is a type of ROM, that is masked off during production. It is used in systems that require long-term sustainability.
  • Programmable read-only memory (PROM):
    • It is a memory that can be programmed only once after it is created. Once programmed, the information written is permanent and cannot be deleted.
  • Erasable Programmable read-only memory (EPROM):
    • It is a programmable ROM that can be erased and re-used. It can be erased by exposing it to ultra-violet light.
  • Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM):
    • It is a programmable ROM that allows the stored data to be erased electrically.
