Correct Answer - Option 1 : BCG

Concept:

  • Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccine is a live vaccine.
  • It is used to prevent tuberculosis.
  • BCG has bacteria that cause inflammation after administration. The inflammation leads to the formation of scars.
  • The weak bacteria only cause inflammation response and do not cause the disease.

  • The failure of the formation of scar does not mean that the vaccine has failed. There is a 10% failure rate in the formation of scars.
  • If the child is suspected of tuberculosis, then the Mantoux test is performed. In such a case, the vaccine is not administered.

Explanation:

MMR The vaccine may cause swelling or fever that passes within 2 to 3 days.
DPT/DT There may be swelling for 1 to 7 days.
Polio There may be fever, redness, and swelling for a short time after administration.
