Correct Answer - Option 3 : John Keats

The correct answer is John Keats.

  • "Adonais" is a pastoral elegy written in 1821 by P.B. Shelley immediately after hearing about the death of John Keats. It has been called the greatest pastoral elegy in English.
  • Adonis in Greek mythology is a beautiful mortal youth beloved by the two goddesses Aphrodite and Proserpine.
  • This pastoral elegy is written in the pattern of the classical pastoral elegy. It begins with an invocation and mournful tone; there follows a procession of mourners (among them are Shelley himself and Lord Byron); then the speaker attacks on the worst literary critics who damaged the self-esteem and honor of the growing artist Keats.

  • Pastoral Elegy is a poem about both death and idyllic rural life, often featuring the shepherds. These poems reflect on folk traditions and involve dialogue between shepherds. We can thus gather that the speaker/narrator in the Pastoral elegy is a shepherd.
