Correct Answer - Option 3 : Rs. 37,500

Given:

Ratio of investment of A and B = 3 : 9

Profit% on total amount invested = 40%

Profit of A = Rs. 5000

Concept used:

We know that the ratio in which the investment is done, the profit is also distributed in the same ratio if nothing is mentioned.

Calculation:

Let P be the total profit obtained

So, Rs. 5000 = (3/12) × P

⇒ P = Rs. 20,000

Let A be the total amount invested by A & B

Given that profit earned is 40%, hence

Rs. 20,000 = (40/100) × A

We get, A = Rs. 50,000

Amount invested by B = (9/12) × 50000

⇒ B = Rs. 37,500

∴ The amount invested by B is Rs. 37,500
