Amit travelled at 48 km/h from place A to B in a certain time. In the return journey, he covered 33\(\frac{1}{3}\)% of the journey in 66\(\frac{2}{3}\)% of the initial time. What should be his speed for the rest of the journey so that he can cover the entire return journey in the same time that he took for the onward journey?
1. 64 km/h
2. 80 km/h
3. 96 km/h

Best answer
Correct Answer - Option 3 : 96 km/h

Given:

Amit travelled at 48 km/h from place A to B in a certain time

Calculation:

Let be assume distance is D and time is T for the onward journey

⇒ Onward journey time T = D/48 ..... (1)

⇒ Speed of return journey at the beginning  S1 = (D/3)/(2T/3) = D/2T  ..... (1)

⇒ The speed for the remaining return journey S2 = (2D/3)/(T/3) = 2D/T ...... (2)

⇒ S2 = 2 × (48T)/T = 96 km/h  {By equation (2) and (1)}

∴ The required result will be 96 km/h.
