Correct Answer - Option 2 : 4

Calculation:

CP of desktop = Rs. 25,000

SP of desktop = Rs. (25000 + 3500) = Rs. 28500

MP of desktop = 5p% of 25,000 + 25,000 = (25,000 + 1250p)

Now, the selling price of desktop = (100 – 5p/4)% of (25,000 + 1250p)

⇒ (400 – 5p)/4 × (250 + 12.50p)

According to question –

⇒ (400 – 5p)/4 × (250 + 12.5p) = 28500

From Options –

(i) p = 5

⇒ (400 – 25)/4 × (250 + 12.5 × 5)

⇒ 375/4 × 312.5

⇒ 29296.875 ≠ 28500

(ii) p = 4

⇒ (400 – 20)/4 × (250 + 12.5 × 4)

⇒ 380/4 × (250 + 50)

⇒ 95 × 300

⇒ 2850 = 2850

∴ The value of p is 4.
