Anil buys 12 toys and labels each with the same selling price. He sells 8 toys initially at 20% discount on the labeled price. Then he sells the remaining 4 toys at an additional 25% discount on the discounted price. Thus, he gets a total of Rs.2112, and makes a 10% profit. With no discounts, his percentage of profit would have been
1. 60 %
2. 54 %
3. 55 %
4. 50 %

Best answer
Correct Answer - Option 4 : 50 %

Calculation:

Let the selling price of a toy be 100

8 toys sold at a 20% discount.

SP of 8 toys

⇒ 8 × (80/100) × 100

⇒ 8 × 80

⇒ 640

4 toys sold at an additional 25% discount.

SP of 4 toys

⇒ 4 × (75/100) × (80/100) × 100

⇒ 4 × 3/4 × 80

⇒ 240

Total SP,

⇒ 640 + 240

⇒ 880

According to the question,

880 --- 2112

⇒ 1 --- 2112/880

⇒ 1 --- 2.4

SP of 1 toy,

⇒ 2.4 × 100

⇒ 240

SP of all 12 toys,

⇒ 12 × 240

⇒ Rs. 2,880

He incurred profit of 10% on 2112

⇒ CP = (2112 × 100)/110

⇒ CP = Rs. 1,920

His actual profit with no discount,

⇒ 2,880 – 1,920

⇒ 960

Profit % = (profit/CP) × 100

⇒ Profit % = 960/1920 × 100

⇒ Profit % = 50%

His profit % with no discount is 50 %.
