The ratio of rate of diffusion of \( C O \) and an unknown gas \( A \) under identical conditions is \( 2: 1 \). If the molar mass of gas \( A \) is \( M \) (in \( g / m o l \) ), then the value of \( \frac{M}{14} \) is

Rate of diffusion \(\propto\) \(\frac1{\sqrt M}\)

\(\frac{rate\,of\,diffusion\,of\,CO}{rate\,of\,diffusion\,of\,A}\)\(=\sqrt{\frac{M_A}{M_{co}}}\)

⇒ \(\frac21=\sqrt{\frac{M_A}{28}}\)

⇒ \(\frac{M_A}{28}=\sqrt2\)

⇒ \(\frac{M_A}{14}=2\sqrt2\)
