Srinarayan appointed as a train driver in Southern Railways. He got his first train whose speed is 126 km/hr. Which crosses the famous Pamban Bridge (Rameswaram) of length 900m in 40 seconds. Find the length of the train.

Correct Answer - Option 3 : 500 m

Given ∶

Length of Pamban Bridge = 400 m

Time required to cross the bridge = 40 sec.

Formula Used ∶

Distance = Speed × Time 

Calculation ∶

Speed of Train = 126 km/hr = 126 × 5/18 = 35 m/sec.

Time taken to cross the bridge = 40 seconds

∴ Total Distance travelled = 35 × 40 = 1400 m

also, Total Distance = length of train + length of bridge

1400 = length of train + 900

Length of train = 1400 - 900 = 500 m

∴ The length of the train is 500 m.
