Correct Answer - Option 2 : 50

Given:

The total amount of mixture = 354 litres

The ratio of water and milk = 2 : 4

Final mixture of milk and water = 59 : 42

Calculation:

Let the initial amount of water and milk be  2x, 4x

Total amount of mixture  = 2x + 4x ⇒ 6x

354 = 6x

x = 354/6 ⇒ 59

Amount of water = 2 × 59 ⇒ 118

Amount of milk = 4 × 59 ⇒ 236

Then A litres of water is added to the mixture

New amount of water = 118 + A      ----(i)

Then the final amount of water and milk be 42y, 59y

Here 59y = 236 litres

⇒ y = 4

Amount of water = 42 × 4 ⇒ 168 litres      ----(ii)

Equating (i) and (ii)

168 = 118 + A

A = 50 litres

∴The amount of water added to the mixture is 50 litres
