Correct Answer - Option 2 : Katihar

The correct answer is Katihar.

Explanation :

  • The Kosi is a 720 km long trans-boundary river which flows through Nepal, Tibet and India.
  • It drains the northern slopes in Tibet and southern slopes in Nepal. It is also known as Saptakoshi due to its seven upper tributaries, namely, the Indrawati, the Sun Koshi, the Tama Koshi, the Likhu, the Dudh Koshi, the Arun and the Tamor.
  • The Saptakoshi after flowing through the Himalayas crosses into Bihar where it branches into distributaries before joining the Ganges near Kursela in Katihar district.
  • Kamala, Bagmati and Budhi Gandak are the major tributaries of the river in India.
  • The real name of Koshi is "Kaushiki". It is also known as "Sorrow of Bihar". The river gained this name because of its unstable nature which results in heavy annual flood during the rainy season. Extensive Soil Erosion and Landslides have produced a heap of silt yield which is one of the highest in the world.
