Correct Answer - Option 2 : 46

Formula used:

Average = Sum of all observation/Total number of observations

Statement 1:

Let the number be 4x and 5x

4x + 5x = 36

⇒ 9x = 36

⇒ x = 36/9 = 4

The numbers are 4x = 16 and 5x = 20

Greater number is 20.

Statement 2:

Average of three consecutive even numbers = 28

Sum of all numbers = 28 × 3 = 84

Let the numbers be y – 2, y, and y + 2

Sum of all numbers = y – 2 + y + y + 2 = 3y

⇒ 3y = 84

⇒ y = 84/3

⇒ y = 28

The numbers are 26, 28, and 30

Smallest number = 26

Required sum = 20 + 26 = 46

 Required sum is 46
