  • It is one of the district towns of Madhya Pradesh stateTikamgarh town is the district headquarters of the Sagar district division.
  • The original name of the Tikamgarh town was Tihri. In the year 1783, the ruler of Orchha Vikramajit (1776–1817) shifted his capital region from Orchha to Tihri and renamed the place name called Tikamgarh (Tikam is one of the names of Lord Krishna).
  • It is bounded on the Niwari District on the north, Lalitpur districts of Uttar Pradesh on the west, and southeast by Chhatarpur District of Madhya Pradesh.
