Why does sky appear blue ?

Sky appear blue due to the phenomenon of scattering of light. As we know that, the wavelength of blue colour is much smaller than that of red colour. Therefore, intensity of the blue light scattered is much more than that of the red colour. Thus the blue colour becomes the major colour and it so happen.
