Correct Answer - Option 3 : Mirza Raja Jai Singh
  • The administrative system of the Mughals rested on the twin systems of mansabdari and jagirdari put in place by Emperor Akbar to streamline the military and administrative capabilities of the empire.
  • The mansab granted to the nobility ranged from 10 to 5000 and were divided into 56 categories.
  • The Rajputs were an important part of the Mughal nobility and were often granted high mansabs and the right to retain their hereditary principalities as watan jagirs, the Rajput policy initiated by Akbar was continued duly by his successors as pointed out by historian Nurul Hasan. The latter discusses the role of the Mughal landed elites in his seminal work “Zamindars under the Mughals”, in which he analyses the numerous farmans issued  by Mughal rulers to their zamindars concerning various issues.
  • Historian Rana Safvi, talking about the historical context of the construction of the Taj Mahal, tell us the back story of how the land was purchased by Shah Jahan from Raja Jai Singh, a close relative of Raja Man Singh, the latter a close associate of Akbar. She also tells us about the imperial Farman which stipulated the procurement of the Makrana Marble for the construction of the Taj Mahal.
  • Hence Option 3 is correct.
