Correct Answer - Option 2 : 8.43 kVAR

Concept:

Rating of the capacitor:

Leading kVAR supplied by p.f. correction equipment

Q = P (tan φ1 − tan φ2)

P = Active power in kW

ϕ1 = angle before power factor correction

ϕ2 = angle after power factor correction

Calculation:

Given that P = 20 kW, cos ϕ1 = 0.8, cos ϕ2 = 0.95

Now Rating of the capacitor

Q = P (tan φ1 − tan φ2)

Q = 20 × {tan(cos-10.8) − tan(cos-10.95)}

Q = 20 × 0.4261 = 8.43 kVAR
