The pattern of the original number series is

⇒ 18 + (11 × 2) = 40

⇒ 40 + (13 × 2) = 66

⇒ 66 + ( 17 × 2) = 100

⇒ 100 + (19 × 2) = 138

⇒ 138 + (23 × 2) = 184

According the pattern of the above series the number series starting from the given number

would be as:

⇒ A = 7 + (11 × 2) = 29

⇒ B = 29 + (13 × 2) = 55

⇒ C = 55 + (17 × 2) = 89

⇒ D = 89 + (19 × 2) = 127

⇒ E = 127 + (23 × 2) = 173

∴ The required number in place of D would be 127
