In the following question, two statements are numbered as A and B. On solving these statements, we get quantities A and B respectively. Solve both quantities and choose the correct option.

Quantity A: A passenger train of length 350 m moving at a speed of 72 kmph crosses other goods train of length 200m moving in the same direction at a certain speed in 2 min and 45 seconds. If the same goods train can cross a platform of length A m in 18 seconds, then find the length of the platform.

Quantity B: The perimeter of a square having area of 121 sq.m is equal to the circumference of a circle. The area of a circle is equal to the area of a rhombus having one diagonal is equal to the side of a square. Find the length of other diagonal.
1. Quantity A ≥ Quantity B
2. Quantity A ≤ Quantity B
3. Quantity A < Quantity B
4. Quantity A > Quantity B
5. Quantity A = Quantity B or No relation

Correct Answer - Option 4 : Quantity A > Quantity B

Quantity A:

Let the speed of the second goods train be M m / s.

⇒ (350 + 200) / 165 = 72 × 5 / 18 – M

⇒ M = 20 – 10 / 3

⇒ M = 50 / 3 m / s

Now,

(200 + A) / 18 = 50 / 3

⇒ A = 100m

Length of the platform is 100m.

Quantity B:

Side of a square = √121 = 11 m

⇒ Perimeter of square = 11 × 4 = 44 m

Circumference of a circle = 44 m = 2 × 22 / 7 × radius of a circle

Radius of a circle = 7 m

Area of a Circle = 22 / 7 × 7 × 7 = 154 sq.m

One diagonal of a rhombus = 11 m

⇒ Area of rhombus = 154 = ½ × 11 × other diagonal

⇒ Another diagonal of a square = 28m

Quantity A > Quantity B.
