The prevention of Corruption ( Amendment) Act, 2018 -
- This act amended the "Prevention of corruption Act, 1988".
- This act came into force on 26th July 2018.
- It attempted to bring the prevention of corruption Act in line with United Nations Conventions.
Under this amendment act -
1) The terms "gratification other than legal remuneration" and "valuable thing" are being replaced by the term "Undue advantage".
2) It also stated that if the duty is performed dishonestly by any public official then he will be guilty of an offense under section 7 and shall be imprisoned for a term of 3 - 7 years.
3) Section 9 provides for an offense by a commercial organization.
4) The new section 18A also introduces a provision for special courts to confiscate and attach the property acquired through corrupt practices.
