Flow diagram - In a manufacturing shop, there is the movement of men and material from one location to another. The flow diagrams indicate the movements while the work is being accomplished. 
A flow diagram is drawn to scale, in which the relative position of machinery, jigs, fixtures, are shown and the path followed by the men and materials are marked. 

String diagram - The string diagram is a scale layout drawing on which, length of the string is used to record the extent as well as the pattern of the movement of a worker working within a limited area during a certain period of time. The primary function of the string diagram is to produce a record of the existing set of the conditions so that the job of seeing what is actually taking place is made as simple as possible.

Operation process chart - It is a graphical and symbolic representation of the processing activities performed on the work-piece. They are of three types –

  • Material type flow process chart 
  • Man type flow process chart 
  • Equipment type flow process chart
