Directions: Each item consists of two statements, one labeled as ‘Statement (I)’ and the other as ‘Statement (II)’. Examine these two statements carefully and select the answer using the code given below:

Statement (I): Large RAM with MOS circuit technology is used for the main memory in the computer system.

Statement (II): An important application of ROM is to store system programs, library subroutines, etc.

1. Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true and Statement (II) is the correct explanation of Statement (I)
2. Both Statement (I) and Statement(II) are individually true but Statement (II) is not the correct explanation of Statement(I)
3. Statement (I) is true but Statement (II) us false
4. Statement (I) is false but Statement (II) is true

Correct Answer - Option 2 : Both Statement (I) and Statement(II) are individually true but Statement (II) is not the correct explanation of Statement(I)
  • Large random access memory (RAM) is used for the main memory in the computer system because it has greater storage densities and is less expansive, because of the MOS (metal oxide semiconductor) circuit technology. (Statement I is correct)
  • ROM (Read-only memory) is used to store system program library subroutines etc. because it stores the information permanently on the chip that cannot be changed by users.

So, statement II is also correct but is not the correct explanation of Statement I.

Important Points:

RAM

ROM

Volatile in nature

Non-volatile in nature.

Temporary data storage

Permanent data storage.

Power is needed to hold the data in memory

No power is required to hold the data in memory.

Large size with higher density

Smaller in size and lesser capacity.

DRAM and SRAM are the main categories.

Used in microcontrollers system, BIOS,

PROM, EPROM, EEPROM, etc.

Faster

Slower compare to RAM
