The pattern of the original number series is
⇒ 480 × 0.5 = 240
⇒ 240 × \(\frac{2}{3}\) = 160
⇒ 160 × \(\frac{3}{4}\) = 120
⇒ 120 × \(\frac{4}{5}\) = 96
⇒96 × \(\frac{5}{6}\) = 80
According the pattern of the above series the number series starting from the given number 85
would be as:
⇒ 1260
⇒ A =1260 × \(\frac{1}{2}\)  = 630
⇒ B = 630 × \(\frac{2}{3}\) = 420
⇒ C =420 × \(\frac{3}{4}\) = 315
⇒ D = 315 × \(\frac{4}{5}\) = 252
⇒ E = 252 × \(\frac{5}{6}\) = 210
∴ The required number in place of D would be 252
