Correct Answer - Option 3 : 39 and 6

The sum of the ages of a father and son is 45 years.

Five years ago, the product of their ages was 34.

Let age of father be ‘a’ and age of son is ‘b’ five years ago.

According to question a x b = 34.

There are only two possibilities to get a number 34 by multiplication of two numbers.

34 x 1 = 34, …….(1) and

17 x 2 = 34 ……..(2)

Sum of their ages now is 45

Using (1),

Today their age will be 34 + 5 = 39 for father

And for son 1 + 5 = 6

Using (2),

Age of father today is 17 + 5 = 22

Age of son is 2 + 5 = 7, (which is not in option)

Hence, age of Father and son is 39 and 6 respectively.
