Correct Answer - Option 2 : Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true but Statement (II) is not the correct explanation of Statement (I)

Statement I: True

The following are some characteristics of a gas:

1. Gas is a state of matter that has no fixed shape and no fixed volume i.e. formless fluid.

2. Gases have lower density than other states of matter, such as solids and liquids.

3. When more gas particles enter a container, there is less space for the particles to spread out, and they become compressed.

4. Gases can be changed to liquid or solid states by change of temperature and pressure.

Statement II: True

Smog is a mixture of smoke, dust, mist and fog. The main constituents are: Nitrogen oxide, PAN, HCs, Ozone and CO.

Formation: The atmospheric pollutants or gases that form smog are released in the air when fuels are burnt. When sunlight and its heat react with these gases and fine particles in the atmosphere, smog is formed. It is purely caused by air pollution.
