Correct Answer - Option 3 : Dara Shikoh

The Correct Answer is Option 3, i.e. Dara Shikoh.

  • Dara Shikoh was Mughal emperor Shah Jahan's eldest son, and heir-apparent.
  • He was called Padshahzada-i-Buzurg Martaba ("High-Rank Prince"), and his father and his older sister, Princess Jahanara Begum, preferred Dara as a successor.
  • As opposed to the orthodox Aurangzeb, Dara was a liberal-minded unorthodox Muslim; he authored The Confluence of the Two Seas, which argues for the harmony of Sufi philosophy in Islam and Vedanta philosophy in Hindu.
  • He was appointed governor of Bihar province at the end of 1657 and promoted command of 60,000 infantry and 40,000 cavalries.
  • Recently the ministry of culture set up a seven-member panel of the Archaeological Survey of India to locate the grave of the Mughal prince Dara shikoh.
