  • The sixth Mughal Emperor of India was Aurangzeb, son of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.
  • Under the rule of Aurangzeb, the Mughal Empire extended from Ghazni to Chittagong, and from Kashmir to Karnataka and covering most parts of India.
  • One of the first things Aurangzeb did when he was made viceroy of the Deccan was to bring to an end the Nizam Shah dynasty.
  • In 1647 Shah Jahan moved Aurangzeb from Gujarat to become Balkh governor, replacing Murad Baksh, a younger son.
