The steady state stability limit of a synchronous machine connected to infinite bus is 2.2 pu. Infinite bus voltage is 1pu and synchronous machine voltage is 1.1 pu. The transfer reactance between generator and infinite bus is:
1. j 0.5
2. –j 0.5
3. j 1.0

Correct Answer - Option 1 : j 0.5

Concept:

Steady-state power limit is defined as, \(\frac{{EV}}{{{X_d}}}\)

Where E = infinite bus voltage.

V = synchronous machine voltage

Xd = transfer reactance between generator and infinite bus

Calculation:

Given that, E = 1pu, V = 1.1 pu

Steady state stability = 2.2 pu

\({X_d} = \frac{{EV}}{{SSSL}} = \frac{{1\; \times \;1.1}}{{2.2}} = 0.5\)

Hence, transfer reactance is j 0.5
