Correct Answer - Option 3 : Orbital angular momentum of the electrons
  • A permanent dipole exists in the absence of a field. Materials which lack of permanent magnetic dipoles are called diamagnetic materials.
  • Magnetisation of such materials occurs when the applied field induces a magnetic moment in the individual atoms.
  • Diamagnetic material develops a net magnetic moment in the direction opposite to that of the external magnetic field.
  • This possibility arises since an external magnetic field may cause changes in the electron orbits.
  • In the absence of the external field, the net magnetic moment of the orbits is zero but takes a non-zero value when the orbits are charged.
