Correct Answer - Option 2 : improved voltage profile

Reactive power compensation in the feeder uses a shunt compensator in the middle of the line (generally).

  • It can maintain the voltage VS and VR equal irrespective of the direction of power flow.
  • It ideally doubles the power handling capacity of the transmission line, improves the steady-state performance, damps out the transient oscillations.
  • It also improves the power factor and maintains a good voltage profile.
