Neha started for the railway station stand, 8 km from her house by motorcycle at a speed of 16 km/hr to catch the train in time. After 6 minute, she realised that she had forgotten her ticket at house and retuned with increased speed of (x + 10) km/hr to succeed in catching the train.  What is the value of ‘x’?

Given:

Distance = 8 km

Initial speed = 16 km/hr

After 6 min, her speed = (x + 10) km/hr

Formula used:

Speed = Distance/Time

Calculation:

Time = 8/16 = 1/2 hrs = 30 minutes

Net time = (30 – 6) minutes = 24 minutes

Distance = (8 + 16 × (6/60)] = 9.6 km

∴ required sped = Distance/Time

⇒ 9.6/(24/60)

⇒ 24 km/hr

According to question –

⇒ (x + 10) = 24

⇒ x = 14
