Statement (I): Geodetic survey cannot be done for work requiring high precision

Statement (II): The curvature of earth is accounted for measurements in Geodetic survey

1. Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true and Statement (H) is the correct explanation of Statement (I)
2. Both Statement (I) and Statement (H) are individually true but Statement (II) is NOT the correct explanation of Statement (I)
3. Statement (I) is true but Statement (II) is false

Correct Answer - Option 4 : Statement (I) is false but Statement (II) is true

Based on the shape of earth, the surveying are of generally two types:

1. Geodetic Survey

2. Plane Survey

The basic differences between these two types of surveys are specified below in tabulated form:

Geodetic Survey

Plane Survey

In this true shape of earth i.e. curvature of earth is considered while taking measurements.

In this, curvature of earth is neglected and assumed to be a flat surface.

This type of surveying being carried out for high degree of precision and adopted where large area is to be surveyed.

This type of surveying being carried out for low degree of precision and adopted where small area is to be surveyed (less than 200 km2).

All lines lying on surface are curved lines and they form spherical triangles.

All lines lying on surface are straight lines and hence, they form plane triangles.

The direction of plumb line at various points is converging towards center of earth.

The plumb lines at all points of the area assumed to be parallel.
