Correct Answer - Option 1 : Slip × frequency

Rotor fed Induction motor:

  • When 3-ϕ supply is given to the rotor instead of the stator and if the stator is short-circuited, then the rotor will start rotating in the opposite direction. This is because, as usual, there is a rotating magnetic field, but this time it is due to rotor.
  • Since the stator cannot move, the rotor will start to rotate in opposite direction as that of a rotating magnetic field (which seems like stator rotating in the same direction as rotating magnetic field) to minimize the relative motion between the two.
  • If the stator is not circuited, nothing will happen and the rotor will be stationary.
  • The frequency of the current flowing in the short-circuited stator is slip frequency.
