Statement (I): A homogeneous mixture of gases that do not react within themselves can be treated as a pure substance.

Statement (II): Flue gases can be treated as a homogenous mixture of gases.
1. Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true and Statement (II) is the correct explanation of Statement (I)
2. Both Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true but Statement (II) is not the correct explanation of Statement (I)

Correct Answer - Option 3 : Statement (I) is true but Statement (II) is false

Concept:

Pure substance: It is a substance of constant chemical composition throughout its mass.

It is one component system and may exist in two to three phases.

Homogeneous mixture: A mixture in which the amount of components present is mixed uniformly throughout the bulk. the components do not get react with each other. E.g. Milk, Blood, Alcohol in water, etc.

Non-pure substances: The components which are not mixed uniformly throughout the bulk. E.g. Oil and water, Gaseous air and liquid air, etc.

Flue gases: The mixture of gases resulting from combustion and other reactions in a furnace. Orsat, the instrument of choice for performing flue gas analysis. It consists of smoke flue, composed largely of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water vapor, and often sulfur dioxide, etc. It is not mixed uniformly throughout the bulk.

So, Statement (II) is false.
