Correct Answer - Option 3 : Direct Method

Teaching method: Different teaching methods are used by teachers as per the requirements of students. For choosing the one, the teacher may classify students based on their abilities (ability grouping) or he can choose it based on the compatibility of the topic. The following are some of the teaching methods explained:

  • Direct method: In this method, the learner learns the target language directly without translating it into the mother tongue. It de-emphasizes the teaching of formal grammar and focuses on speaking skills.
  • Grammar-Translation Method:  In this method, the learner first learns grammatical rules and then apply those rules in translating sentences from the target language in the mother tongue. It focuses on writing skill.

Bilingual Method

This method advocates the use of already acquired language skills in the mother tongue to develop and achieve fluency and accuracy in the learning of target language.

Play and Learn method

This method advocates the overall development of child and understanding of the subject through involving learners in different play activities to make learning more effective

Sentence Method

This method advocates the proceeding of language learning from whole to part thus gives priority to the learning of sentences first and then the alphabetic components.

So, it could be interpreted that the Direct method emerged as a reaction to the various demerits of the Grammar-translation method
